The story of Guns was born from several concerns that accumulated over time. One of the earliest was the recurring theme of the duel between the two best, so present in anime and cinema—the struggle to claim first place. Yet the emptiness that follows achieving that goal is rarely explored. Guns begins precisely there, in that uncomfortable space that appears once the objective has been fulfilled and the real questions are only just beginning.

Lejos de hacer una apología de todo esto, la novela busca ponerlo en duda: cuestionar cuánto vale realmente la pena esa carrera permanente y qué se pierde en el camino. No intento aleccionar ni ofrecer respuestas definitivas, sino compartir una reflexión personal.

Finally, Guns is also born from the desire to explore those inner voices that guide us, from the process of philosophizing and thinking abstractly about who we are, and from the attempt to give those ideas concrete form within a story. The act of writing is, for me, a way of self-discovery. Each character contains a part of me, and through them, I continue trying to understand myself.

As with many readers, it’s inevitable to have favorite characters; I have them too (though perhaps we shouldn’t mention that Princesa is one of them). Each character fulfills a fundamental role within the world of Guns, and none are there merely as background. Some, of course, stand out more from the very beginning. La Sombra, for example, draws attention through his presence and aura: he is written to be the best, the most “cool,” the one who inevitably commands the spotlight. Yet even he is part of a broader whole, where every piece is necessary for the universe to make sense.
